Must Watch: Duterte supporters call for “boycott” of Daniel Padilla movie

Supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte have flooded social media with a plea for people to avoid watching the latest movie of teen actor Daniel Padilla after his infamous statement during the campaign period of the 2016 elections.

Padilla was campaigning with love interest Kathryn Bernando for Liberal Party presidential candidate Mar Roxas for the elections.

It can be recalled that Padilla issued a statement, calling netizens “know-it-alls” and claiming that non-voters have no right to voice out their opinions on their candidates.

"'Di naman pwede tayo salita nang salita and hindi mo naman alam ang nangyayari sa eleksyon. Marami kasi nagmamagaling sa eleksyon, hindi naman botante, so shut up ka na, hindi ka naman botante,"
(Don't keep on talking if you don't know what's going on in the elections. There are so many know-it-alls when it comes to the elections and yet they are not even registered voters. So just shut up if you are not a voter.) He said, garnering comments from an irritated audience.

As the actor is promoting an upcoming movie entitled “Barcelona: A Love Untold”, Duterte supporters are urging the public to skip it.

WATCH! Star Magic Conducted A Mandatory Drug Test On 40 Talents. Find Out Who Were Involved...

This was according to Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, of the “supervised and voluntary drug test” conducted on 40 of its artists on Saturday.
“There will be more of this in the coming months,” said ABS-CBN PR manager Thess Gubi, adding that this was “conducted to belay rumors of drug use in the community. This is also to discourage people from using illegal drugs.”

The network has yet to release the names of those who voluntarily subjected themselves to drug testing. However, in a statement sent to the Inquirer, Star Magic said “results were 100 percent negative for actors Jake Cuenca, Enrique Gil, Diego Loyzaga and the rest of the Star Magic artists.”

The statement stated: “Star Magic believes in the efforts of the current campaign to keep our homes and environments drug-free.”

Gubi said there have been rumors that Gil, Cuenca and Loyzaga were included on President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of those involved in illegal drug use. “This is the network’s initiative to dispel rumors even before the president decides to reveal the names of those on the list,” she pointed out.

Gubi said artists were already informed by management of the drug testing some two weeks ago, and stressed that this was not mandatory. “Only those who are willing and have no prior schedule may go,” she said. “We were not supposed to publicize this but we want to let the public know that we are supporting the government in its campaign.”

'PBB' execs to meet with MTRCB after Rita’s bullying episode - Must Read

THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) released a letter published in its websites following the episode wherein Pinoy Big Brother teen housemate Rita Gaviola, a representative of the Badjao community was teased.

The letter was addressed to the reality show's producers, and writers, requesting for a meeting slated on August 18.

MTRCB's decision to call a conference with the show's team was based on factors like Rita's age and her role as a representative of an indigenous group.

"With the above, and considering further the age as well as gender of the concerned housemate, not to mention the representation made in your program that she belongs to an indigenous group or peoples of the Philippines, we are impelled to ask your aftendance, through your authorized representative/s at a conference scheduled for 18 August 2016, 10:30 a.m. at the MTRCB Adjudication Room, " read the board’s letter.

In the said episode, Rita was washing dishes in the kitchen, when some of the other female housemates started to laugh after showing what appeared to be one of Rita's garments. After realizing their mistake, the other housemates apologized.

Earlier, Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda called on the concerned government agencies to take appropriate action following the incident. He emphasized that fighting discrimination or bullying from a youth-oriented program like PBB is but of great importance.

No-frills singing boosts Esang de Torres’ bid for recording stardom - Be Updated!

She may have only placed third in the second season of “The Voice Kids,” but Esang de Torres has since clearly outpaced her talented rivals in the popular kiddie tilt.
In terms of singing chops-honing experience and cachet-boosting exposure, her recent stint as little Cosette in the Manila and Singapore staging of “Les Miserables” is an impressive addition to Esang’s continually expanding body of work.
Is this a cautionary case of too much, too soon for the adorable singing moppet? Not really.

It’s hard to begrudge Esang her share of the performing spotlight—after all, it isn’t like she only started trying her luck in Tinseltown last year.
In fact, it’s been five years since Esang first ventured into singing competitions (at age 4)—and she just turned 9 years old last February!
Esang refuses to rest on her laurels, however. Her latest triumph comes in the form of her solo debut album, “Ako ay Kakanta,” whose age-appropriate, Vehnee Saturno-penned songs prove that relative fame hasn’t spoiled her or her disarmingly unaffected, no-frills singing style.

If you’re partial to birit-sung encomiums about love that defies seemingly insurmountable odds or show-stopping renditions that offer generous servings of tricky melisma, you won’t hear much of those here.
Esang sings about character-forming relationships forged through the years (“Your Angel,” “Friend”) and issues that kids her age can relate to—from the unquantifiable pleasure she gets out of singing (“Ako ay Kakanta”) to what children think about conflict in the complex world they inhabit (“Pag-ibig ang Sagot,” “Batang Makulet”).
If you think there’s only so much that children and tweens can sing about, you’ve got another think coming: “Nanay Ko, Tatay Ko” examines the ties that bind young kids and their OFW parents, who grudgingly leave their cash-strapped families behind to give their heretofore bleak future a fighting chance.

For music enthusiasts who want some vocal bravado and bombast, the show-stopping “Kung Bubuksan Mo Lang ang Puso” is “wired” as an inspiring ballad that hews close to the structure of a contest piece, fueled further by soaring sections that melodically dramatize its empowering theme.
The eight-track album’s only cover, Charo Unite and Ernie dela Peña’s enduring “May Bukas Pa,” is a pleasant addition to the lineup because, devoid of excessive gimmicks, it’s easy to appreciate what its message is truly about when there aren’t potential distractions that can dilute its lyrical and melodic appeal.
