Robredo: BBM should be banned from public office

Robredo: BBM should be banned from public office

Vice President Leni Robredo in earlier interviews once said that fellow VP aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. should be banned from working in a public office for his entire lifetime, considering the magnitude of wealth his family stole and the human rights abuses that that were committed during Martial Law.

“With the magnitude of wealth that was robbed from us, dapat sana oo,” she responded upon being asked if she believes that the Marcos family should  be perpetually disqualified from public office.

She further reiterated her belief that if Marcos would be elected to a post as high as vice presidency, we would be a laughing stock of the world.

“Talagang naniniwala ako na if he (Bongbong) would be elected to office, lalo na for something as high as the vice presidency, parang laughing stock of the world tayo,” Robredo said in an interview with Karen Davila at ANC’s Headstart. Robredo did not mince words as she strongly criticized the Marcoses for “brainwashing” the Filipinos even before the start of the campaign period.

“It didn’t start at the start of the campaign period. Parang the brainwashing really started many years na. Maraming nakalimot eh. Tingin ko dapat sana after EDSA happened, naging very conscious tayo to instill this. Naging part siya ng kwento, Naging part siya ng mga tinuturo sa paaralan. Iyong consciousness nandiyan,” she said.

Robredo beat Marcos in the elections by 263,473 votes.

Sen.

Rigoberto Tiglao: Duterte should remove Leni of Cabinet position, give it to Marcos instead

Rigoberto Tiglao: Duterte should remove Leni of Cabinet position, give it to Marcos instead

Former politician now prominent journalist Rigoberto Tiglao voiced out that President Rodrigo  Duterte should have Vice President Leni Robredo removed of her cabinet position.

Robredo now chairs the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council.

The Vice President recently criticized the burial of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, a move orchestrated by Duterte.

“I can’t understand why Duterte keeps Robredo in his Cabinet when she keeps on criticizing him, openly disagreeing with his policies (like the Marcos burial).” he wrote.

“She can’t be removed of course as VP (except through impeachment), but Duterte can remove her from the posts he appointed her to. Para asarin siya, let Marcos jr. replace her.” he added.

Tiglao said if Robredo can’t accept the major policy of the President, then she should “immediately resign”.

Bongbong Marcos to Comelec: Why ‘strip’ VCMs despite SC protection order? - Must Read!

Bongbong Marcos to Comelec: Why ‘strip’ VCMs despite SC protection order? - Must Read!

Lawyers of vice presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr question the Comelec for allowing the backing up of data and the disabling activity on the vote-counting machines

The camp of defeated vice presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr questioned the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for touching the vote counting machines (VCMs) after the Supreme Court (SC) issued an order to protect the election paraphernalia in relation to his electoral protest.

The SC, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), announced last week that it granted on July 12 Marcos’ petition to preserve all the props used during the last elections in light of his protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.

In a letter filed with the poll body on Thursday, August 11, Marcos’ lawyer Jose Amorado asked the Comelec to explain why it still granted the request of Election Records and Statistics Department (ERSD) Director Ester Villaflor Roxas “to back up the files in the SD cards and CCS laptop units that were used during the May 9, 2016 elections.”

Amorado argued that securing the data was conducted through a Comelec en banc resolution dated July 12 – the same day the SC en banc also decided to issue a protection order.

The Comelec resolution became the basis for the “stripping” or disabling activity that started on July 16 at the Laguna warehouse, where it is keeping the VCMs.

While the SC released the precautionary protection order (PPO) only on August 2, it had earlier “announced to the public” its July 12 decision, Marcos’ spokesperson lawyer Vic Rodriguez pointed out.

“We are not saying that, by stripping, the data will be changed, but really we are saying: Why did the Comelec make this order when there was already a protection order by the PET to preserve all those used in the last elections?” Rodriguez said.

“We [also] want to know from the Comelec if it still continued with, and is still carrying out, the stripping activity of the VCM and CCS laptops units which supposedly started last July 16 and from that time and the issuance of the order, so much time had lapsed, which is the reason why we want to know what happened through this letter,” he added.

Follow up

Rodriguez also urged the poll body to specify the actions that the Comelec has taken to preserve the integrity of the poll materials “used in all the 92,509 clustered precincts nationwide.”

The Marcos camp also followed up on their petition last May for a systems audit, following reports on Smartmatic officials’ unauthorized breach of the election servers. The Marcos camp has maintained that this could have caused the sudden surge in Robredo’s lead during the unofficial canvassing of votes. (READ: Marcos camp files formal request to open Comelec servers)

The Comelec deferred action on the petition since the official canvassing of votes in Congress had started at the time.

“After the conduct of the canvassing, they no longer made any action. That is the reason why we again sent a letter, but until now we are still waiting for their action,” Rodriguez said.

They also demanded that the Comelec explain the 3-month delay in the certification of the source codes. They said the source code certification should have been issued on or before February 9, but it was issued only on April 30, which violates the Automated Election Law.

VP Leni Robredo fears legal fees, not Marcos' protest - Must Read This!

VP Leni Robredo fears legal fees, not Marcos' protest - Must Read This!

Vice President Leni Robredo reiterates that former senator Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr's protest is baseless, and she has nothing to hide

MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo is more worried about the legal fees than the strength of the election protest that defeated candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr filed against her.

"I am worried about the legal fees because it will not be the same as during the canvassing when it was pro-bono," Robredo told reporters in Filipino during a press briefing on Wednesday, August 3.

The Supreme Court (SC), sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), ordered Robredo's camp to file their response to the case within 10 days of receipt of the summons.

The Vice President said they have yet to receive a formal notice of the SC resolution, which was issued last July 12 but released to the media only on Tuesday, August 2. (READ: Robredo: 'Senator Marcos knows he lost the elections')

Even before the SC resolution came out, veteran election lawyer Romulo Macalintal already said 10 days is not enough to answer Marcos' protest, which has 1,000 pages plus more than 20,000 documents in its annexes. Macalintal represented Robredo in the canvassing.

But reiterating that the former senator's protest against her victory is baseless, Robredo said on Wednesday: "Hindi naman kami nag-aalala sa pag-eexplain ng sarili kasi wala naman kaming tinatago."

(We are not worried about explaining ourselves because we are not hiding anything.)

Robredo also pointed out that she wants the case out of the way as soon as possible, since she would rather focus on her job as vice president and as the head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

The Marcos camp, meanwhile, called on the Vice President not to use "delaying tactics."

"If the respondent remains consistent to her word that there's no cheating then she should instruct her lawyer not to [resort] to any delaying tactics," Marcos' spokesperson Vic Rodriguez told Rappler in a phone interview.

Rodriguez also said they will welcome it if the Vice President does not file her response to the case, as this would "further expedite the whole proceedings."

Robredo got 14,418,817 votes during the official canvassing last May, while Marcos received 14,155,344 – a difference of just 263,473 votes.

The former senator filed the election protest against Robredo on the eve of her oath-taking, seeking a recount of votes in 39,221 clustered precincts in 25 provinces and 5 highly urbanized cities.

Marcos also wants the nullification of votes in the provinces of Basilan, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur, where he claims there was massive cheating.

Leni Robredo: 'Senator Marcos knows he lost the elections' - Must Read This!

Leni Robredo: 'Senator Marcos knows he lost the elections' - Must Read This!

Vice President Leni Robredo says she doesn't pay much attention to the election protest but acknowledges the battle is tough because she is facing a Marcos

MANILA, Philippines – It’s been two months since Leni Robredo was proclaimed the winner of the vice presidential race but her battle with her chief rival for the post, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, is far from over.

The defeated son and namesake of the late strongman continues to “fight for truth” in the elections, with his protest before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) against Robredo over allegations of electoral fraud. This is coupled with a case filed against Smartmatic for breaching the election servers that might have caused the surge in Robredo’s votes during the unofficial canvassing.

The Vice President has this to say about her legal fight with the former senator: “I think Senator Marcos knows he lost the elections.”

“If you go through the grounds he has been raising since Day One that he learned he was losing, it’s a different ground almost every day. Now he's alleging there was a fourth server. At first he's alleging I was shaving votes from Escudero and [it was] proven that I wasn’t,” Robredo, a lawyer herself, said in a Rappler talk interview.

She does not give much attention to Marcos' election protest since she's already used to it, she said, being the wife of a long-time mayor and a newbie politician herself. The late interior secretary Jesse Robredo faced contention in the 6 elections he won as Naga mayor; Robredo's victory in her 2013 congressional bid was also contested even if she had won by a landslide.

Robredo noted this fight is different because she is head-to-head with a Marcos, a member of a powerful political clan.

“He has been using media. He has been using his money to spin a different tale and that [makes] it different. [I] can’t just also sit back and allow him to twist facts,” she said.

Robredo also expressed concern over Marcos’ huge presence on social media and the number of people he has seemingly convinced through it. “It is difficult for us because we don’t have as much resource to say otherwise.”

In his protest, Marcos is seeking a recount of votes in 27 provinces and cities covering 36,000 precincts. He also wants to nullify votes in Basilan, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. The Marcos camp claims there was massive electoral fraud in these areas, where pre-shaded ballots were reportedly found during the elections.

The case is still pending before the Supreme Court, sitting as the PET. In July, the High Court asked Robredo’s camp to respond to Marcos’ 1,000-page complaint within 10 days. But Robredo’s election lawyer Romulo Macalintal said it is not enough time to respond “the longest protest ever filed in the country.” (READ: Robredo vs Marcos: The long and winding road to the vice presidency)

Robredo, for her part, is counting on the wisdom of the High Court.

“I hope the courts will decide accordingly and with swiftness because the longer that the case drags, the more it is difficult for all of us to move on,” she said during the interview.

Pres. Duterte has agreed with Bongbong that the hero's burial for Marcos will happen this year! Check this out! - Must Read This!

Pres. Duterte has agreed with Bongbong that the hero's burial for Marcos will happen this year! Check this out! - Must Read This!

The President-choose Rodrigo Duterte ensured to active Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. that the remaining parts of his dad, previous President Ferdinand Marcos, will be transported to the Libingan ng mga Bayani quickly by September.

The more youthful Marcos claims in a trap meeting, "The exchange was exceptionally casual however we're peering toward (to get it going) on September. We concurred that it will happen this year," He included that he is extremely grateful to the approaching president since he is enthusiastic about a legend's entombment for his dad regardless of the reactions.

In the month of May, Duterte said that the late despot should be covered at the Heroes' Cemetery in Taguig. He expressed that the issue has quite recently partitioned the nation and it should be put to rest.

"I will permit the internment of President Marcos sa Libingan ng mga Bayani, not on account of he is a legend… but rather in light of the fact that he was a Filipino trooper. Period. That can be masterminded instantly," he said. "Yang issue na yan has since quite a while ago made a division amongst our kin. All of Ilocanos, naghihinanakit talaga.

Nonetheless, his choice has picked up reactions from the individuals who experienced Marcos tyranny. Truth be told, an online appeal on Change.org claims, "Ferdinand E. Marcos is not a saint. Just saints are covered in the Heroes' Cemetery as the name so actually states,"

It likewise says that covering Marcos' as one with the nation's saints will be an "attack against the a large number of lives tormented and killed amid the despot's rule." It can be recollected that Marcos turned into the president for over two decades before removed in the People Power upset in 1986.

Also, he kicked the bucket in the United Stated while estranged abroad in 1989. Since his demise, his family has requested a saint's internment for him, asserting his achievements as a previous trooper and president. The late despot's body is still in a glass pine box in a catacomb in Ilocos Norte, the place where he grew up.
