DSWD to release P513.7 Million in Emergency Shelter Aid for Typhoon Nina Victims


President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to release P513.7 million in Emergency Shelter AID (ESA) for the families who got affected by Typhoon Nina.

The previous administration has failed to release the ESA immediately which took them years to accomplished.

The DSWD announced that they will provide P10,000 to each affected families whose house was partially damaged and P30,000 to each family whose house was totally damaged.

According to Secretary Judy Taguiwalao of DSWD, an initial amount of P5,000 will be released and the rest of it will be given after the DPWH finish their assestments and validates the extent of damage on the houses.


Taguiwalo also said that she has already endorsed the department's rehabilitation plan for the ESA to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) for funding.

According to the DSWD report, a total of P245.9 million worth of relief assistance has been provided to the affected families of Typhoon Nina, P228.4 million came from DSWD while P6.1 million from LGUs and P11.4 miliion from NGOs.

The Duterte administration would need to released P4.35 billion to the ESA for 248,242 households.
