Members of the once-ruling Liberal Party (LP) are set to meet by January next year, with former President Benigno Aquino III, Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo said. Robredo, who recently resigned from the Cabinet as housing chief, said they will hold a meeting to discuss and come up with a party stand on various issues under the Duterte administration.
Among the issues to be taken up are pending measures on the revival of the death penalty, lowering of criminal responsibility, and amendments to the Sin Tax law. “In our previous timetable, we called for a meeting in March but I suggested to make it earlier,” Robredo said in Filipino. The former Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chief noted that the party leaders will create a “policy body” during the meeting so each member would understand the issues.

For example is federalism…We should discuss this before the deliberation in Congress so we have direction,” she said.
Some members of LP have declared that they are ready to stand behind Robredo when she becomes the leader of the emerging opposition.
The Vice President quit her post as housing chair after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered her to stop attending Cabinet meetings.
Robredo, LP’s interim chair, said it was Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, interim president of the party, who has organized the meeting.
Aside from Aquino, Robredo’s running-mate and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is expected to attend the said meet.
“We haven’t really held a meeting. We only had a gathering of LP (members) in the House of Representatives, but with local government officials and LP leaders there is no meeting yet,” the Vice President said.
