WATCH | BFAR Launches Two New Philippine-Made Multi-Mision Vessels

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), an agency under the Department of Agriculture (DA) launches the two Philippine Made 50.5-Meter Multi-Mission Offshore Vessels (MMOV).

Vessel launching is the process of transferring a newly built vessel to the water, which also marks the beginning of testing at sea.

In a news report by PTVNews, they noted that the acquisition of the two new MMOV was made possible through the assistance of the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources' partner agencies like the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine Navy.

The floating asset MMOV 5001 will be called as the Lapu-Lapu vessel while the MMOV 5002 will be tagged as Francisco Dagohoy. According to the Department of Agriculture, the two vessels is set to patrol the Philippine Rise (formerly known as the Benham Rise) and the Sulu Sea.

The construction of the said vessels started in January 2016, each vessel costs PhP 178.5 Million and these will be first in their class built in the Philippines.

BFAR stated that the design of the two new assets was created by Incat Crowther, a reputable ship designer based in the United States. The two vessels were build at Josefa Slipways, a medium category local shipyard in Navotas City.
