Duterte violated 5 ‘narco generals’ rights to due process – De Lima - Must Read This!

Sen. Leila de Lima has weighed in on the shame campaign launched by President Duterte against five police generals allegedly linked to illegal drugs.

While Duterte showed seriousness in the anti-drug campaign, de Lima noted there could be a violation of the rights to due process for the five concerned individuals.

“Sa tingin ko yung name and shame tact adopted by our President has both a plus and a minus.
On one hand it demonstrates yung seriousness, yung determination niya to really stamp out criminality and corruption especially official corruption, corruption within the PNP ranks, between and among the PNP officials. So that’s the plus,” she said.

“On the other hand, syempre, may violation dyan ng due process,” the former justice secretary said.

“There is still presumption of innocence and therefore, they are entitled to be heard. They should not be put and subjected to trial by publicity,” de Lima said.

De Lima was asked about Duterte’s decision to publicly humiliate retired Gen. Marcelo Garbo, former police officer and now local mayor Vicente Loot and active generals Joel Pagdilao, Ernesto Tinio and Bernardo Diaz. Duterte has sought a probe of the five generals and has refused to present any evidence to back up his expose so far.
