Two people were killed in a hostage-taking incident that took place in SM Dasmariñas Sunday afternoon.
Former Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla who was in the area during the incident told CNN Philippines there were initially 12 hostages but nine managed to escape.
Remulla said one of the hostages suffered stab wounds and died on the scene, while another one was injured.
According to Remulla, the police tried to talk to the hostage-taker but he refused to surrender. Remulla said that the hostage-taker was eventually neutralized.
In a spot-report, Cavite police identified the hostage-taker as Carlo Marcus Ladra, 32 years old from Leyte province.
Authorities are looking into a possible love triangle angle.
Meanwhile, in an official statement, SM group's head of investor relations Cora Guidote told CNN Philippines that based on the information they gathered, the incident "started as a domestic problem that was brought to the mall."
Guidote said, the Philippine National Police and SM security worked together to manage the situation.
